Double Cleansing Explained

Why oil cleansers plus water-based cleansers are the gold standard for removing sunscreen and makeup.

6 min read

What is double cleansing?

Double cleansing is a two-step method: first an oil-based cleanser to dissolve makeup, SPF, and sebum, then a water-based cleanser to remove sweat and remaining residue.

It originated in Korean skincare but has become essential for anyone wearing modern sunscreens or long-wear makeup.

Who needs it?

If you wear SPF daily (you should), double cleansing at night prevents clogged pores and dullness.

Dry skin types can use a gentle cream cleanser as step two; oily types may prefer a light gel.
